Sign up now for Farmington Recreation Department's Prep ...

FARMINGTON - Farmington Recreation Department is pleased to announce the 21st Season of "Prep" Basketball with director, Kim Richards and assistant director, Dustin Richards.

Registrations are now being taken for boys and girls in Grade 1, 2 or six years of age, who would like to take part in the Rec. Dept's entry level basketball program, "Prep" Basketball. This program, entering its 19th year, introduces youngsters to the sport of basketball in a non-competitive format.
Each child will begin to learn the rules and fundamental skills of the sport of basketball through drills, fun games, contests and controlled scrimmages. Players will come away from the program with a basic understanding and working knowledge of the game.

It is our intent to make this a pressure free atmosphere to learn and enjoy the game. There will be no team assignments, playing schedules to follow or trophies to win. Players will use the most appropriate youth size basketballs and the rims at the Community Center Bjorn Gymnasium will be set at eight feet to encourage shooting success for all.

Kim Richards has many years of basketball coaching experience. She has been the director of the
Jr. Pro Basketball program for the past 21 years as well as the 1991 travel team coach and a 3-year student volunteer coach. Dustin Richards, Kim?s son has been assisting her in doing the ?Prep? basketball program over the past several years.

A single group of players will meet each Wednesday evening starting Jan. 9, from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. This is a 5 week program that is held in the Bjorn gymnasium at the Farmington Community Center.

Registration Fee for "Prep" Basketball is $25 and a $5 non-resident fee is charged to those who do not reside in Farmington, Farmington Falls, West Farmington or Fairbanks, or whose parents do not pay property taxes to the Town of Farmington. A souvenir ?Prep? Basketball T- shirt will be provided to each participant at no extra cost.

Registration deadline for this program is Wednesday, Jan. 9.

Registration forms are available at the Recreation Dept. Office in the Farmington Community Center, 127 Middle Street in Farmington.

If school is canceled, this does not mean ?Prep? Basketball is canceled. If conditions improve ?Prep? Basketball may still be held. Any significant snow accumulation during the course of a Wednesday or difficult afternoon driving conditions may also lead to ?Prep? Basketball being canceled. A decision on whether the program will take place or not will be made between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. that day. We will also attempt to notify people via email as well, if an email address has been provided.
